Hair Regrowth

Today, there are several non-surgical options available for hair restoration or hair regrowth, ranging from hair products such as pills and creams to injections.

However, it is recommended that you stick to the NHS or FDA-approved medications as well as tried-and-tested treatments. Determining which type of medicine or combination of medicines is appropriate for you usually depend on your age, severity of hair loss, and budget.

Some of the popular medications include:

Finaseride

Finasteride disrupts the production of dihydrotestosterone or DHT in your body. DHT is a male hormone which is naturally found in both men and women. It causes severe hair loss by shrinking the hair follicles. Finasteride prevents the shrinkage of hair follicles and avoids any further hair loss. Finasteride is consumed as a once-a-day tablet. The side-effect of finasteride mainly includes the loss of sex drive, which is believed to affect around 2% of men who use it.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil or Rogaine is highly effective for hair loss. It usually comes in the form of an over-the-counter lotion that you can rub into your scalp daily. Minoxidil does not have any officially recognized side-effects.

Steroids

Steroid injections or creams can prevent certain types of hair loss, such as alopecia areata or severe female pattern hair loss. Injecting steroids directly into the scalp is believed to be a highly effective treatment. It is considered as one of the fastest hair loss treatments. Massaging steroids into the scalp is comparatively less painful and can be used when injections aren't recommended.

Hairpieces & Extensions

Custom-made hair pieces can meet the requirements of patients who may not be good candidates for hair restoration surgery.
